Christmas in the County

Come get in the Christmas spirit at the Christmas in the County presented by the Mower County Historical Society!  Stop by on Friday, December 13 from 3-6 PM in the Administration Building for the Pre-Sale Bake Sale.  This is your chance to get your Christmas cookies, lefse, and other Christmas treats bought before the Saturday extravaganza.  Come back to the historical society on Saturday, December 14 from 3-7 PM for outdoor/indoor activities and bake sale.  Admission is free but donations are accepted.

Saturday’s outdoor activities will include sleigh and wagon rides around the fairgrounds.  Everyone will also have the chance to climb into the 1004 steam engine and blow the whistle!  Don’t forget to wander around to see all the Christmas decorations on display.  Some lights even dance to music!  Families can spend quality time working together on crafts like ornament making, decorating cookies, and making pinecone bird feeders.  When you need a boost for your next round of activities, homemade chili and hot dogs will be for sale.  The bake sale continues in the Administration Building providing some treats to take home for the sweet toothed members of your family.

Visitors can buy raffle tickets to win one of nineteen prizes!  Prizes include a homemade star stretched quilt and matching pillows, gift certificates for complimentary rooms from the Holiday Inn, $50 Visa gift card from Accentra Credit Union, “Evening Reflections” painting by Derk Hanson from First State Bank of Minnesota in LeRoy, and many others.  Tickets are $1 each.  Raffle winners will be drawn at 6 PM on Saturday.  They can be purchased at the historical society office or from volunteers.  The silent auction will include items for everyone in the family.  Bids can be placed during Saturday’s activities until 6:45 PM.

In the event of inclement weather, the Pre-Sale Bake Sale will run as scheduled.  The Saturday activities will be moved back to December 15 from 3 to 7 PM.  Watch and listen for weather related announcements on local television or radio stations.
