Visit Austin Medical Center's patient education area on Tuesday, March 23 from 9 - 11 a.m. to receive a free blood sugar screening.
Studies have shown that type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed by losing just 5-7% of body weight through regular physical activity (30 minutes a day, five days a week) and healthy eating. For people who have already been diagnosed with diabetes - whether they have type 1 or type 2 diabetes - these same lifestyle changes can make huge differences in their diabetes management.
Knowing that type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed with moderate lifestyle changes, we also would ask that you encourage your community to not only join the movement by taking the Diabetes Risk Test, but to use the Diabetes Alert Day as a start to a healthier lifestyle by taking a 30 minute walk during a designated time on Diabetes Alert Day as well as get their friends, co-workers and/or loved ones to do the same.
