How do you dig history? The Mower County Historical Society invites the public to answer that question as part of a new campaign called Dig History. Dig History focuses on engaging people in history through a personal connection to history. “History takes on a different significance for each individual,” says Executive Director Dustin Heckman. “Our job is to help people figure out how it is significant to them and make a connection to history so it becomes part of their regular routine. This may be through tracing family roots, attending presentations or lectures, becoming a reenactor, or volunteering as a tour guide or researcher.” Heckman believes that the bottom line answer to all this is to get people to begin enjoying history immediately, no matter the age of the person.
To kickoff the campaign, the historical society will be having an event at the El Parral Ballroom to talk about the campaign and teach people how the historical society can help them make those connections. The event will be held on Thursday, March 7 from 5 to 7 PM. There is no admission charge to attend.
