Position Summary
LIFE Mower County is seeking a well-rounded and enthusiastic individual to coordinate and implement programs that support youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families. This part-time position plays a key role in delivering high-quality, inclusive recreation and support activities that foster connection, learning, and fun.
Applicants must be available for daytime, evening, and weekend hours as program needs vary.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Coordination and Implementation
- Plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate a variety of youth and family programs, including but not limited to:
- Autism Friendly Austin (Varies)
- Breakfast with Santa, Grinch and Easter Bunny, Trunk or Treat (Varies)
- Family Game Night (Monthly)
- Parent and Caregiver Connection (Bi-Monthly)
- Play Group (Bi-Monthly)
- Sibling Connection (formerly Sibshops) (Quarterly)
- SPARKS (Supporting Play, Activities, Respite, Knowledge, and Socialization) (Monthly)
- Special Olympics Young Athletes (Varies)
- Teen Connect (Monthly)
- Adapt activities as needed to accommodate participants with varying abilities.
- Introduce new program ideas and evaluate existing activities for improvement.
- Supervise participants and volunteers during activities and ensure safety and engagement.
- Promote positive social interaction and manage behaviors appropriately.
Family Support and Communication
- Build and maintain positive relationships with families and caregivers.
- Provide information and referrals to local resources and organizations that support youth with disabilities and their families.
- Coordinate communication and provide information about program offerings and events.
- Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries in a timely, friendly manner.
Volunteer and Event Support
- Schedule and support volunteers for youth and family programs.
- Assist with LIFE Mower County fundraising activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Experience working in recreation/leisure programs or related fields preferred.
- At least two years of experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities is preferred but not required.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Google Workspace, and Canva.
- Enthusiastic, flexible, and highly motivated to work with youth and families of all abilities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Clean driving record required.
- Must pass a background check.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends. No work required on holidays.
Compensation
- This is a part-time position with a flexible weekly schedule based on program needs. Pay is commensurate with experience.
