POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility by developing, organizing, and implementing high quality, member focused, aquatic programs. The Program Coordinator at YMCA of Austin intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics and training programs. The coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of the aquatics training programs such as American Red Cross CPR and First Aid, Lifeguarding, Jr. Lifeguarding, SafeSitter, and lifeguard monthly inservices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Create and implement training schedules for all American Red Cross, SafeSitter, and other courses with the support of the Operations Director.
- Create and distribute surveys to gather feedback from participants, instructors, and stakeholders on training programs. Analyze data and identify trends to inform improvements.
- Regularly observe training sessions and provide constructive feedback to instructors. Collaborate with instructors to identify areas for improvement and develop action plans to address gaps in performance.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with instructors, participants, and stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement in training quality and effectiveness.
- Schedule and facilitate monthly red cap drills for all lifeguards to ensure preparedness and adherence to safety protocols. Observe and assess each participant’s performance during the drills, identifying areas of improvement and providing feedback.
- Maintain accurate records of red cap drill outcomes and individual staff performance, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and industry regulations.
- Coordinate and conduct reevaluations within 7 days for any staff member who fails a red cap drill, focusing on the specific skills or knowledge areas that require improvement. Offer additional training, The Y: We’re for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. mentorship, or resources to staff members who need further development and communicate progress to management.

The effectiveness of the fulfillment of this position will be measured by:
- Enhanced Safety and Preparedness: Regular trainings, red caps, and reevaluations will ensure all aquatic staff are well-trained and capable of handling emergencies, creating a safer environment for all.
- Continuous Improvement: The use of surveys and evaluation data will drive ongoing refinement and enhancement of training programs, leading to better learning outcomes and participant satisfaction.
- Instructor Development: Professional growth opportunities and targeted feedback will foster a skilled and engaged instructor team, increasing the overall effectiveness of training programs.
- Data Driven Decision Making: Tracking and analyzing results will provide valuable insights for making informed decisions about program improvements and resource allocation.
- Effective Communication: Open dialogue and regular progress updates will ensure transparency and alignment among all stakeholders, supporting ongoing collaboration and continuous improvement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- One to two years related aquatics experience.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Current American Red Cross CPR, First Aid certification, Instructor preferred or ability to obtain within 90 days.
- American Red Cross Water safety instructor certifications preferred.
- Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, and Westbend assigned classes.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Hours vary depending on need, including weekends and evenings.
