About Us

Hormel Historic Home, Inc. is a historic house museum and nonprofit event venue located in Austin, Minnesota. Built in 1871 and originally known as the Cook-Hormel House, the home was later purchased and remodeled by George A. Hormel, founder of Hormel Foods. Today, the organization preserves the home and celebrates the legacy of the Hormel family through tours, educational programming, community events, and cultural activities.

The property features restored historic rooms, period furnishings, and exhibits that highlight local history, architecture, and the influence of the Hormel family in Austin’s development. In addition to its role as a museum, the site includes the Carriage Hall Event Center, which hosts weddings, meetings, receptions, and community gatherings.

The organization operates as an independent nonprofit focused on hospitality, music, education, and community engagement, offering both public tours and private rentals year-round. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a key cultural landmark in Austin.
