About Us
Mower County 4-H is a youth development program delivered through the University of Minnesota Extension, serving families in Austin and throughout Mower County. The program provides hands-on learning opportunities for youth in grades K–13, helping them build leadership skills, responsibility, and confidence through a wide range of educational projects and activities. Participants can explore interests such as animal science, agriculture, STEM, robotics, creative arts, public speaking, civic engagement, and outdoor education.
4-H members join clubs where they learn alongside peers and caring adult volunteers, gaining real-world experience through community service, project work, workshops, camps, fairs, and leadership roles. The program emphasizes learning by doing, encouraging youth to set goals, complete projects, and present their work at local and state events such as the Mower County Fair and Minnesota State Fair.
Supported by Extension educators and volunteers, Mower County 4-H is focused on developing life skills—head, heart, hands, and health—while strengthening connections to family, community, and agriculture. The program is open to all youth and offers flexible participation options, including clubs, independent study, and school enrichment programs.
