About Us

The Mower County Historical Society preserves and shares the history of Mower County and Austin, Minnesota, through exhibits, archives, educational programs, and community outreach. The museum campus features historic buildings, including the main museum, a pioneer-era cabin, a one-room schoolhouse, and other preserved structures that showcase life in southern Minnesota from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Visitors can explore rotating and permanent exhibits covering topics such as early settlement, agriculture, transportation, industry, military history, and everyday life in Mower County. The society also maintains an extensive archive of historical documents, photographs, newspapers, and genealogical resources for researchers, families, and historians.

In addition to museum exhibits, the organization hosts educational programs, tours, school field trips, and community events designed to engage visitors of all ages and promote local heritage. The Mower County Historical Society plays an important role in preserving the region’s cultural identity while providing a place for learning, research, and connection to the past.
