Day on the Farm

3rd Grade Day on the Farm – Connecting Kids to the Source of Their Food
Each year, hundreds of third graders from Pacelli, Austin, and Lyle schools get the chance to step out of the classroom and onto real working farms for Day on the Farm.
This hands-on learning experience connects kids directly with our local food producers — and yes, they’ll meet farmers and their livestock up close! Students visit a variety of agricultural operations, learning how food is grown, raised, and brought to our tables.
Why it matters:
In a world where many children have never seen where their food comes from, Day on the Farm provides a vital link. Through farm tours and activities, students gain a new appreciation for:
-
The hard work and dedication of farmers.
-
The importance of healthy, fresh, and local food.
-
The connections between our environment, our land, and the food we eat.
By seeing agriculture in action, kids develop respect and gratitude for the people and processes that sustain our community — lessons they’ll carry with them for life.
